The Best Reader Magnet? (Hint: RRR)🐅

Before the release of the 2022 Tollywood movie, RRR, the filmmakers released a clip of the main dance scene, Naatu Naatu. If you went to YouTube to watch this scene, you’d find over half a dozen videos, all with millions of views, even hundreds of millions of views. It was, is, that popular. In fact, it might be the most successful sample movie clip ever.

Because of giving potential customers a free sample of the movie, RRR became the third highest grossing Indian film of all time. And just what is RRR all about? As Cinema Therapy put it, “It is a silly, over-the-top crazy, action superhero Indian historical drama and musical. It's also a literal blueprint for heathy relationships.” I completely agree. I laughed, cringed, and squealed all the way through it. (Which was a bit awkward on an 11pm flight across the country.)

The novel equivalent of a movie clip is a “Reader Magnet”. Just like a movie clip, it’s a free sample to entice the reader into action, whether it be signing up for a newsletter or buying a book. My reader magnet is Cursed, a short-story standalone prequel to my debut fantasy, Whisper. It is fantasy/horror creation inspired by John Carpenter’s, The Thing and available for free on this website by signing up for my newsletter.

(And, for those who were curious, I did name Nuss after the beach volleyball player, Kristen Nuss, who is currently vying for gold in Paris!)
